OOC: Jeff/Soze Plot FAQ
Do I really need to read all this?
Nope! This is really only intended to keep things straight in my own head. It won't affect anyone except Jeff and Soze during normal interactions with the Nexus (answering questions, etc.). This is mostly for folks who would like to know just what's going on with these two characters, or want to get involved.
What's going on?
Jeff (
jmlevitt) was killed while possessed by the ghost of Keyser Soze (
in_verbatim). Due to various side effects of a temporary immortality LOL, both Jeff and Soze were brought back to life, but their souls became "tangled up" to the point that they are now essentially two halves of one soul.
As a result of this, a few things happened. First, what happens to Jeff often crosses over to Soze, and vice-versa. Jeff also asked Kaa to make both himself and Soze incapable of hurting anyone. Finally, Soze is unable to leave the Nexus, for reasons unknown.
So does this mean I have to contact both muns if I want to do something with Jeff or Keyer?
Not at all! Just talk to whichever mun you're interacting with. We'll hash out any crossover stuff behind the scenes.
What sort of things cross over?
Always:
Sometimes:
Any other effects?
Bits of Soze and Jeff have "leaked" into each other. Fragments of knowledge, memories, and even dreams are crossing over, causing both to know and remember things that belong to the wrong person. Their personalities are warping as well, becoming more like each other. As of right now, the "leak" seems to have stabilized, and they haven't merged any further.
Both Jeff and Soze can sense each other. They can sense how far away the other person is, and in which direction, and can sense the other's emotional state.
Jeff's mind was shielded by Kaa some time ago, and this protection now extends to Soze. If either of them allows someone to affect his mind, whoever they allow will be able to affect both minds.
How can they be separated?
Short answer: Right now, they can't.
Why not?
OOCly, Soze-mun needed a way to prevent Soze from being shot on sight the second he set foot in the Nexus. The soulbond was born as a way to complicate any plans to kill Soze, since doing so would also kill a relative innocent. The main goal is to keep Soze playable, so this bond is not going to be broken anytime soon.
ICly, the reason is that on a spiritual level, there is no "Jeff" and "Soze" as separate beings, only a single soul spread out over two bodies. Severing their apparent connection will not separate them again; the result would be more akin to cutting the two of them in half (with similar results).
What about if my character [insert cool plot idea here]?
Due to school, both Soze-mun and Jeff-mun are cutting back on RP, so this plot is currently on hold. If you've got an idea for when we get back (tentatively mid- to late-spring) feel free to email us at the addresses below.
My character can sense auras/magic/souls/etc. Would they be able to detect this?
Yes. Jeff and Soze's auras, by themselves, look strangely "incomplete." There isn't any less energy than a normal soul, but their souls feel only halfway there. When they're alone, their auras seem to trail off into the distance toward whatever direction the other happens to be in. If they're in the same room together, it's very obvious that they're two halves of the same soul.
Soze can't hurt people any more? What's that about?
Soze (and by extension, Jeff) has had a mental compulsion placed on him by Kaa. He cannot physically harm anyone except to defend himself. If he tries, his muscles lock up, he can't pull the trigger, his arm jerks so the shot misses, etc.
Soze can't leave the Nexus?
Correct. Attempts to PINpoint away simply result in him arriving in a different place in the Nexus (usually the sanctuary). The same happens if a person tries to PINpoint Keyser to a place outside the Nexus. The person will arrive at their destination, but Keyser will not. This also applies to portals leading outside the Nexus. Keyser will not be able to enter them.
This restriction does not apply to Jeff, but due to their bond, leaving the Nexus is very uncomfortable for him.
Are Jeff and Keyser going to have sex?

What sort of things cross over?
Always:
- Physical damage - If one is injured, the other receives the same injury at the exact same time. Wounds or bruises on the other apparently appear spontaneously.
- Pain - If one feels a significant amount of pain, the other feels it at the exact moment. Something like Jeff banging his shin on the coffee table wouldn't transfer, but if the pain would be bad enough to leave a bruise if physical or worse, the other will feel it.
- Healing - Injuries healed on one are healed on the other. This includes both magical and mundane healing. Wounds on the other appear to heal by themselves.
- Incapacitation - If one is knocked unconscious, becomes paralyzed, is hit with a Sleep spell, etc., the other gets knocked out as well.
- Death - Jeff dies, Soze dies,
Everybody dies.
Sometimes:
- Emotions - Varies depending on distance, intensity, and the needs of the plot. Generally, each of them can sense the other's mood, and are affected by the other's emotions if they are close enough to each other. Normally this only results in the one's mood changing slightly to closer match the other, but extremely strong emotions can create drastic changes in personality.
- Drugs/poisons - Depends on effects. Damage is transferred over, and mood altering effects will transfer over as well if they're intense enough (e.g. feargas).
- Sickness, hunger, fatigue - Only if severe. Common colds, allergies, flu...that sort of thing won't transfer. However, if it's bad enough to cause internal damage (cancer, starvation, severe exhaustion) or cause one to pass out, the other will feel the effects.
- Mind control/mental compulsions - These will need to be worked out on an individual basis. Generally, what affects one will affect the other in the same way (e.g. Soze and Jeff's current inability to cause harm). However, the mind control in question would need to get past Kaa's shields to affect either of them.
- LOLs - Completely random. LOLs may or may not transfer depending on the specific LOL, the needs of the plot, and/or the muns' need for amusement. The other may get the same LOL or a completely different LOL (usually happens with "random effect" LOLs). If a specific LOL doesn't transfer, the non-LOLed character will simply feel "weird" until the LOL wears off.
